Fantasy Bike trail over Chuseok

We have been told that it is like Korean Thanksgiving. It is a holiday around where they get together with their families and honor their ancestors. We took a hike and saw a lot of people tending to their ancestors graves, which are all over, including in the middle of their farm fields.

I had a week-long break in October. The celebration is called Chuseok (추석). We have been told that it is like Korean Thanksgiving. It is a holiday around where they get together with their families and honor their ancestors. We took a hike and saw a lot of people tending to their ancestor's graves, which are all over, including in the middle of their farm fields.

I went for an additional scuba diving trip on the first day of break. It was a good day, and I returned to the place that I went to last time. The currents were a lot more intense, but scuba diving is always a pretty amazing experience. Twyla had to do something else, so I went with some amazing coworkers

The big adventure of the break as we biked the Fantasy bike trail. This is a bike path that goes around the entire island and is marked by a blue line. It was a great way to explore the island and get on our road bikes. We spent three days and two nights. We got hotels each night as we did not have our trailer or camping gear. It was our first-time “credit card camping”. It was an awesome adventure. We did two days of 100+ kilometers, and the last day was a bit shorter. The trail is 234 kilometers, but we had an additional 40 km to get from our house to the trail and back. You can get a book and get all of the stamps to show you did it all. The stamps are stored in red phone booths.  I hope to do the trip again and maybe get the stamps next time.

The first day was a bit hilly, but very nice. It was closer to home, so we had biked some of it and knew of some good restaurants to eat at (at least for lunch). That night we found a place to stay, after some searching. It was cheap and very roomy and we could see the ocean from our window. The closest restaurant that we could find that had vegetarian was an American restaurant. We got a pizza, and Twyl’s half had french fries on it.

The second day was a fund windy day. The first half of the day we had a very stiff headwind, but it was OK because we switched direction (yea island) so we got a crazy good tail wind in the afternoon. We had a bigger day and we ended up staying at a less cheap and less cute place, but it was comfy. Dinner was tough, and we had a hard time finding a vegetarian option. We were in the biggest city on our island and every item at every restaurant had met. It does not help that we could not communicate to make a vegetarian meal, but it is not really something they do here. It was a beautiful day and a fun bike ride.

The last day was easy. It went by quick. I might have to train, and do it in two (maybe one day.) The roads are great for riding. A road biking paradise. I kind of miss the big mountains, but the headwinds are so strong, I think it is kind of the same.
